In recent years, the problem of cracking in structures using Blast-Furnace slag cement due to rising heat of hydrateion have been great concern. For understanding the causes, this research was to comprehensively study the hydration heat of blast-furnace slag cement. In this study, simple test methods were used for measurement of adiabatic temperature rise and heat rising rate in mortar specimens. Property of cement materials are ground granulated blast-furnace slag (GGBFS), specific surface area (Blaine) of GGBFS, replacement ratio of GGBFS, amount of additional anhydrate and ambient temperature. From the test results, adiabatic temperature rise and heat rising rate are more sensitive to Blaine value than to replacement ratio of GGBFS. It is effective to control the heat of hydration in blast-furnace slag cement using GGBFS of low Blaine at high content. This paper describes the effectiveness of adiabatic temperature rise on fixed quantity for property of GGBFS. This research may contribute to the consideration of material design for blast-furnace slag cement.
