N2 - Three dimensional numerical analysis for a spherical foil bearing scanning against a plane foil is performed, under the assumption that the foil is perfectly flexible and deforms as a set of strings stretched in the tension direction. The trends of pressure distribution, foil deformations, spacing distribution and minimum spacing are discussed in connection with the various bearing parameters such as bearing dimension, scanning angle and relative position between bearing and foil.
