N2 - Until now major applications of superconductors have been confined to products in the form of wires and thin films. However, the development of melt processed bulk superconductors which have a very strong pinning force, has opened up the possibility of many different applications in the bulk monolithic form, such as bearing, flywheels, load transport, magnetic shield, display and magnets. It has been proved that large YBaCuO superconductors with large dimensions can be fabricated by melt processes without cracking, and they can be machined into various shapes without deteriorating their superconducting properties.
