The authors have developed a non-contact transportation system based on near field acoustic levitation(NFAL) phenomenon. In the NFAL, a planar object is levitated very close to the vibrating surface and are also held in the horizontal direction. The aim of this report is to clear the mechanism of the holding phenomenon in NFAL to make the system optimum. Based on an idea that the acoustic viscous force governs the holding phenomenon, the direct flow produced by the acoustic streaming was measured and was also calculated. As a result, the validity of the proposed mechanism was confirmed.
